How to copy Excel into image file with column letter and row number headings?

This one’s a real time saver. While writing tutorials, I used to do a screenshot, and paste image into an image editor to get all the column and row headings into an image. This requires a lot of work, such as moving and cropping the image. Now, I can just copy from Excel and paste into an image file into a image editor with the column headings directly. You can do this for both Excel 2003 and 2010.

Solution for Excel 2010

Here’s how to do it:

1. Set up the page so that the page will be printed with headings. Page Layout tab -> Headings -> Check “Print”
   

   Make sure the Headings -> Print checkbox on the bottom right of the screenshot is checked.

2. Highlight cells to be copied
3. On the Home tab, click on the arrow beside “Copy”
   
4. Click “Copy as Picture”
5. Select “As shown when printed”
   
6. Press “OK”
7. Paste the image into Excel
8. Cut the image and paste into image editor (For example, Gimp)

Solution for Excel 2007

1. Repeat Excel 2010 – steps 1 and 2.
2. Go to Home tab -> click Paste arrow (to load the drop down menu)
3. Click “As Picture”
4. Click “Copy as Picture” You will now see the same menu as in Step 5 in the previous solution for Excel 2010.
5. Repeat Excel 2010 – Step 5 and onward.
